IGN PS2 has an interesting article about Square giving their Vice-President an unimportant position in the company.

From IGNPS2: “According to several sources, including those on the Gaming-Age Message Boards, the well-known executive director of the Final Fantasy series and Square’s Vice President Hironobu Sakaguchi is taking what’s called a “window seat” in the Square Hierarchy. Thanks to at least one very poor financial quarter, and possibly several other factors, including the fact that the Final Fantasy movie bombed, Sakaguchi will be redirected and given a rather unimportant position in the company, where he can do very little good. Because of these actions, Sakaguchi is believed to be planning on leaving Square and starting his own company.”

So he might start his own Company? It could be that he will be dealing with a company that Square doesn’t deal with hint hint.

Of course though, this is all rumors, so none of this is confirmed

Nintendo is planning to only ship 300,000 units of Gamecube hardware as opposed to the 600,000 to 700,000 planned. Unfortunately, retailers asked for more Gamecubes to meet the growing demand, and this has complicated issues. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem likely that Nintendo will shift over Gamecubes from its N.A. release to the Japanese market.

“It seems impossible for us to make any change to our GameCube shipment plan for this year given the limited production capacity,” said Hiroshi Imanishi, director at Nintendo Japan, to Reuters. “We can’t just shift some of the consoles which were made for the Japanese market to the U.S. market because such a move would upset Japanese retailers, who are also asking for more consoles.” IGNCube.com

Nintendo will monitor Gamecube demand here, and if all goes well, they may increase production to meet it.

Activision announced today that Tony Hawk 3 will be available to Gamecube consumers before the holidays!

“We are excited to partner with Nintendo to bring this key franchise to the new platform,” stated Ron Doornink, President and COO, Activision, Inc. “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 will be one of the handful of third-party titles available for the Nintendo GameCube this holiday season. The game takes full advantage of the hardware’s advanced technological and graphics capabilities to offer Nintendo consumers a revolutionary gaming experience.” IGNCube.com

This is great news for Gamecubers, and it will keep us company over the holidays as we’re snowed in up here in Canada.

Cube Europe recently had a chat with the Product Manager of Nintendo. Here is a little excerpt from the interview…

Tim: Is there going to be any demo discs with the GCN or will they come free with a monthly official magazine?

Frank: There are plans for demo discs as well as monthly magazines, but nothing is definite yet. Nintendo will not make the magazines itself if there is going to be one, because that is not part of the core-business of our organization. The demo discs are a decision of Nintendo of Japan. They have not taken a decision yet. But I think it is pretty obvious that they will use it as mareketing tool.

So I guess we won’t know anything here until NOA and NOJ talk it over and decide whether to make them available here…

Nintendo recently said that the Wavebird controller would follow the release of the GCN. However, it appears that things have changed.

Nintendo’s site has confirmed that the Wavebird won’t be released until sometime in 2002, and details are rather vague. The good news is that it may make it to Japan this year!

The Wavebird is a unique technology developed by Nintendo that transmits via RF (radio frequency) to your Gamecube for up to 10 metres, which eliminates the useless wire and clutter that most controllers create. For more info on the Wavebird, head over to our Gamecube Peripheral section and take a gander!

Microsoft announced that they would delay the release of the highly touted XBox from Nov. 8 to Nov. 15., a mere three days before the U.S. launch of Gamecube. Microsoft also went on to say that they would cut the initial units of shipment from 800,000 to 300,000.

Microsoft has already announced that they would delay the release of XBox in Japan to Feb. 22. They did this to see what kind of reception the XBox would get on the U.S. markets before launching in Japan. Usually this is reversed, but then again, Microsoft is the first non-Japanese console creator.

These delays give Nintendo plenty of time to build an installed userbase well before XBox’s launch, and Japanese game distributers are already asking for more Gamecube units to fill in the supply for Christmas.

Galleon: Islands of Mystery, by Interplay, has been delayed till spring of 2002. The game was suppossed to be delayed in December of 2001, and is caused because of financial issues. All games that were coming out by Interplay have also been set back, to spring of 2002 also. It saddens me that they have to push this game back, but it will obviously be a top game on the day of its release.

A terrible tragedy has occured in the United States of America today. It’s not surprising if you’ve heard of it because it’s all over TV and most websites. An airplane has hit the world trade center, and some time later, a 2nd plane hit the other World Trade center building. Washington also got hit by a plane. The pentagon got hit by one (this is where in Washington). If you watch the NEWS, you’ll have more details. I would like to send out my condolences to all Americans who are affected by this (GameQubed does the same as me) as well as any other nation who feels bad (like Canada). I feel terrible about this, and I’m a Canadian, so I’m imagining that Americans are feeling very terrible and scared. I give my condolences.

A Canadian Future Shop worker has gotten a list from Nintendo on the prices of Gamecube games and accessories. Remember the prices are in Canadian funds…

  • Gamecube System $299.99
  • First Party Games $69.99
  • Extra Controller $49.99
  • Memory Card $24.95

Just be warned if you’re a Sears Shopper. Because they sell their games for ten dollars more and the system for fifty dollars more!

On September 24th, 2001, the Gamecube will be at the popular toy store, Toys R’ Us. Rumor has it that the games that we will be able to play are Luigi’s Mansion, and Wave Race: Blue Storm. There could be more games on demo’s, but it is unknown right now. Nintendo might decide to release a few games on demo, that could possibly be SSB:M, Pikmon, or Rogue Leader.

Well, its finally here. The updated game list and prices! I was looking at the Gamecube section at Buy.com, and noticed a new list of games and the prices of the games. There are a few games on the Cube that were only suppossed to be released on Microsoft’s Xbox, the most popular being Dark Summit…the major snowboarding game being released on the Xbox. This is not the complete list of the games, we are still waiting for THQ to release the completed list of the games. For now, check it out by clicking here!

IGNCube recently found out that it took a lot of work to make the FMV for Super Smash Bros. Melee at E32001. At the bottom of the article, they’ve been told that not all characters shown in the demo are playable. So who could these guys be? I have a strange feeling that Bowser won’t be playable.
