Happy Birthday Pokémon
This year, marking the five year annaversary of Pokémon, the wildly popular child craze spawning everything from Cards to giant ugly gold plated bars you got with Kids Meals from Burger King, and even local radio parodies commenting on its addictiveness surpassing most illegal substances, sent Nintendo on a tour. Aside from Releasing Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire and the pinball sequal of the same colors, they just finished crossing the country with an Affiliation with Toys ‘R’ Us, still one of my personal favorite places to go, to show off all the new cards, technologies, and games.
The tour ended Monday in the same place that Nintendo introduced Pokémon to the United States: Topeka Kansas. They dubbed ‘Topikachu’ before leaving. Since 1998, Pokémon video games have sold a stunning 110 million units, and Pokémon merchandise has topped $15 billion for the Big-N. It’s so nice to see that what was simply blue and red five years ago is now sapphire and ruby. Gamequbed wished Pikachu a Happy Birthday, and wishes Nintendo has much more success with their future releases.
