NHL Hitz 2002 Review
Midway has always had a good way of creating hockey games and hockey games are the ONLY sports games I’ll buy. I decided to buy this game after playing the Wayne Gretzky hockey games for N64 and Midway did a similiar thing with this game only WAY better.
Wow, if it weren’t for the colored circles under the characters indicating which person is player 1, 2, 3, or 4 I would swear I’m watching hockey on TV. The characters look extremely realistic and everything is smooth. As for the ice and crowd they look pretty darn nice as well with reflections and other aspects.
The sound on this game is superb. From the nice music to various bands to the sound effects. You can hear the skates gliding across the ice and the shots being saved or flying into the net. There’s even an announcer who announces each characters name as he does something. Such as when I use Gagne from the Philadelphia Flyers and I get the puck and go for a goal the announcer might say something like “Gagne with the puck going up the center.” or “Great shot by Gagne.”
The control on this game is simple but I prefer to customize it a bit. The default setting has A for passing/switching characters and B for shooting. Well, I feel the A button is your primary button and I kept hitting it to shoot and messing up so I switched to control to suit me better. Besides all that X is to deliver a check and Y will cause your character to spin and prevent the puck from getting stolen. R and L serve as your turbo buttons and come in handy.
With this game you can always go back and play a championship and win points to buy things in the shop. You can always play some multiplayer and take it to your friends. This game lasts on and on.
I personally hate sports games but I absolutely love this game. If you like hockey then go buy this game. Without question Hitz will provide fun for a LONG time and won’t get old soon.
