Resident Evil Review
Capcom, well noted for their survival/horror Resident Evil games, has decided to remake the series on GameCube and give GameCube the series exclusively. Using the power of the GameCube, this game has become so much better then it was on the Playstation. This is the first GameCube title to require 2 discs to fit it all in!
The visuals on this game are stunning. Capcom has reworked every little detail of the whole game to make it look perfect. The characters have so many polygons they look lifelike. The zombies look freakier then ever and it sends chills down your spine to see one coming at you. Every bit of the game from the characters to the textures of the house look perfect.
The sound in this game sets the mood perfectly. Capcom has always been able to set the mood with the background music they use and in this case it makes you feel like your unsafe, as if there’s something around every corner waiting for you. Believe me, with that music playing and the moaning of a zombie somewhere, you will be afraid. Capcom has also made the sounds of you walking on almost every surface imaginable.
The gameplay is pretty good but could use a little fixing in the aiming. Hold B to run, A to check objects around you, Y to bring up the item menu and, X for the map. Holding R readies your weapon and then pressing A fires.
Now on to the aiming issue, you can only aim high, low, or in between, which can make getting a head shot on a zombie very difficult. I haven’t had any luck with head shots and I rely on defense weapons. If a Zombie is to grab you, pressing L as a defense weapon such as stabbing a knife in his head, putting a grenade in his mouth (Chris only) or zapping them with a tazer (Jill only). There are 2 playable characters who play the same but are part of a different storyline depending on who you play as.
Resident Evil has 2 playable characters to add to the lasting value. On top of that there is around 12 endings to make you play through the game more then once. Plus this is the first Gamecube game to use 2 discs so you know its going to have very much lastability.
Resident Evil is an excellent remake with enough differences from the original so that anyone who owns the Playstation original should buy this one. Capcom put a lot of work into this game and it shouldn’t be passed up.
