Super Monkey Ball Review

The death of the Dreamcast was not all bad. Without its death I wouldn’t be having so much fun with Super Monkey Ball. I must say this game is great for single player and multiplayer. After playing this game for a while you’ll make up your own style (jumping off the course in hopes of landing on it below) and it will become nothing but great laughs.

The graphics in this game were not meant to be realistic yet a rather cartoony sort of game. The courses and monkey’s look great with an excelent use of color. There is some water in this game which is decent but of course can’t compare to Waverace: Blue Storm.

Sega has a nice way of making music and sound effects. The great music blends perfectly with the levels your in and the sound efects are superb. Picking up bananas you’ll hear your monkey make its monkey noises and you’ll here your monkey scream its last breath as your falling off the edge. This game has an excellent use of sound.

The control scheme couldn’t get any simpler. The analog stick and the A button is all you use. Your only going to be using the analog stick in most of the modes yet there are a few that require the A button. This game is easily adapted to people who have never played before yet can be extremely difficult when you get into Advanced mode and above.

This game will last for a long time. There are so many levels and so much to be unlocked that you’ll be at it for a substantial amount of time. If you thought Advanced mode was hard wait until you hit Expert mode. Not only will you be playing single player for a long time but you will always play multiplayer, because this game has a ton of multiplayer modes. I sat down yesterday to play for about an hour with some friends and when we were done I realized we had been at it all day.

I strongly reccomend this game. This is a great game for single player and four players. I am glad that Sega is now making games for everyone to enjoy and I’m looking foward to their next titles for the GameCube.
