Turok: Evolution Review
After years of retirement from the videogame world, Turok is back. How does the new game fair? It is nothing what is used to be. You’re more likely to be in the sky, or fighting Sleg troops in buildings, then dinosaurs. I thought Turok was the dinosaur hunter?
Graphics- Though, the intro and cut scenes look absolutely awesome, the graphics are below average. Some in game things like good, such as the raptors, though not their movement, the T-Rexes, and Brontosaurus. Ridicule is when the dinos eat from dead bodies- they don’t even take up meat or blood. They just snip at open air, what is that? The graphics are extremely blurry, though some things look good up close. Overall the graphics are very lackluster, unlike the amazing graphics of the first ones. Sound: I personally liked the music; I found it much better then the graphics. Though, with exception of boss and T-Rex noises, it’s lackluster. The raptor noises get annoying, and the pesky Slegs don’t shut up. Their screams show like a death metal vocalist. I don’t need to hear anymore of that, my brothers listen to it. So, despite the creative music- the music is barely average.
Gameplay: Turok, one of the best shooters of it’s time during the ps/n64 era, is no nothing. I was expecting something incredible, something I would love. What did I get? A kick in the balls by a Brontosaurus. Akklaim whipped Turok out of shape, it’s like they lost the charm. Where are the glorious graphics, sound, and gameplay? If you’re not an fps vet, it takes a bit with this controls. Aiming with the c-stick (especially above you) is tedious, and usually takes a while. Along with that, why don’t you fire with A? Why with R? Along with that, the weapons which are basically lack-luster aren’t to fun to help it. The multiplayer, I played 1-1, is lackluster too. Don’t bother with Dino Depot even with bloodbath, which gives you all weapons. The turret multiplayer option, is annoying too, guess what it does? The turret takes almost up the entire screen, how exciting.
Replay: The replay, a strong point of the last games isn’t very high. The tedious enemies don’t add any replay value to a game that already sucks. I only kept playing for the review, and to see if there were any games. Unless your a huge fan of Turok, or fps’ then you won’t have much interest- unless you suprisingly like it.
In the end, this game is a lackluster. It annoys me what it could have been, and what it is not. Akklaim should have kept it to one console to spend more time on it. Or just give more effort, whichever. If you like Turok rent it, if not- doesn’t bother.
