WWE WrestleMania X8 Review
The longly anticipated sequel to WWF No mercy on the N64 sure wasn’t what I expected. This game plays and feels nothing like its previous games and thats not all a good thing.
The visual’s on this game are an improvement over the ones of the N64 but just didn’t come to what Gamecube is capable of. The Titantron videos are excelent since Discs can handle FMV’s unlike cartirdges poor quality on them in the past game, but the crowd still looks like a bunch of 2d card board cutouts repeating he same frames of motion over and over again. The wrestlers look decent but sure could use a few more polygons and such. The ring and arena look excelent though.
The music is perfectly matching that of the wrestlers themes on T.V. because we all know Discs can handle so much more then cartridge’s. However the sound FX can get rather annoying. It seems they used the same thud sound for every punch and physical hit to the opponent. The sounds of being slammed against the ring sounds nice and realistic and was done very nicely
Yukes has taken a long time in re-doing our excelent grapple system that was in the N64 games to the not so easy to use one seen in Playstations Smackdown series. The new system is very hard to get used to especially once you have played No Mercy for countless hours. You will press a combination of buttons and yell when it either does nothing or the complete wrong move, its quite annoying. To target another opponent you will use the C-stick but this is rather hard to use becuase you can tell who your fter unless your right in there face.
Overall I would just rent this game once in a while, and with the use of memory cards you can resume your progress anytime with a rental. This game is not worth the money to buy it new and I would stick to No Mercy
